Once again, as he does every Summer my husband unit has requested that I go hiking with him. Previous attempts were thwarted by my lack of appropriate footwear, but his year I've decided that my old-school second favorite kick-ass boots ever just might do the job and I'm getting a pair of Georgia Boots. My last pair saw me through my second to last, last year of college - those were knee high and took about 10 minutes to lace - this time I'm going for the more utilitarian classic model.

Aside from our nearly identical faces, love for each other and my sister and snarky sense of humor, my mother and I have very little in common - which is especially true when it comes to all sartorial matters. Most recently, as I raved about the fabulousness of my afore mentioned and later donated to my 15-year-old cousin, skinny black and white plaid pants - my mother stood just feet away stage whispering to my sister, "I really don't care for those pants at all." Unsolicited commentary essentially required by the binds and history of our relationship. Anyway, I know for a fact that she'd like these boots, as I believe she owns a nearly identical pair - and I like them too, mostly because I think they'll work with my ridiculously skinny ankles.

I recently realized that I make way too many purchases for the 15-year-old version of myself...the plaid skinny pants with zippers, the babydoll dress covered in a cassette tape print - and the list goes on, way on. I'm making a conscious effort to dress like my real aged self, but it's hard and honestly, I'm not totally committed. That lack of commitment is plainly apparent in my scarpe love of these studded, cow hair-covered sneakers, which both my 15-year-old and real aged self adore - and we both believe that they'd look kick ass with those plaid skinny pants.

Somewhat random, but I've gotta say it - Botkier is one of my favorite brands...I love the simplicity of design and the fact that my Botkier bags always get compliments, but I've never seen anyone else carrying them...So, I am seriously craving a new pair of flat black boots - sturdy enough to survive the season, sassy enough to breathe new life into my tired Winter uniform of skinny black pants and black cashmere sweaters...and chameleon-like enough to also be paired with leggings and winter dresses without looking foolish. A few months ago, I happened to wander into one of my favorite shoe stores - Gaby's and sitting there, alone on the shelf I found my solemate waiting in the form of a black patent leather riding boot by Bettye Mueller. Apparently, some girl had just decided not to buy them like 10 minutes before I walked into the store, causing the super nice owner to remark that these boots and I were meant to be. Before these boots, I never imagined that form and function could ever be combined in a way that would speak to me. They've ruined me for all other boots (unless those killer patent Loefflers go on sale sometime soon).
So, because I am already hooked up with THE BEST BOOTS EVER (I swear I saw a pic of Rihanna wearing them and I kinda wanted to jump her), I haven't been all that into the shoe shopping. However, I just found this new site: Wish Shoes and I'm thinking I could probably get over that.

Every summer for the past few years, I've craved the the "it" scarpe of the moment by Michael Kors. Inevitably by the time I actually get around to trying to buy them they're either sold out or have already been knocked-off. My three-year-old goddaughter is one of my absolute favorite people - ever. She has a strength of spirit that pervades everything from the dislike of her bedtime to her heartfelt belief that neither baths nor pooping are truly necessary...to most amusingly (for me at least)- a heartfelt love of fashion, this season with a particular focus on scarpe.

A few weeks ago she questioned my decision to buy orange patent leather scarpe with a distinct twang of outrage in her voice - we had like a whole conversation about it. A few days ago, after seeing a trend report on TV, which proclaimed that yellow scarpe are the season's footwear must-have, she demanded yellow shoes...more specifically, yellow patent leather shoes. So, it seems like its been raining for like a week now. It really sucks. I am sooo very ready for spring and warm weather and open-toed shoes, and not wearing socks for like 4 months. I feel tremendously short changed as I made my seasonal Starbucks switch from cappuccinos to iced quad macchiatos like a month ago, and the frigid temps and unrelenting rain have forced me to revert back to hot caffeinated beverages and practical shoes which keep my feet both dry and warm - like I said, this sucks.

Also, it seems like the hoards of the fashion-misguided have en masse switched from their annoying ass ballet flats to their annoying ass wellies. For the record, I really don't have a problem with wellies, I even own a bright red pair, but it just doesn't seem right - full grown women parading around in brightly colored plastic boots - its a lil Lolita-esque, but with an unflattering fashion flair....which is why my scarpes of the day are pretty, sparkly and totally impractical (for today at least) because practical shoes are for old people and losers.

I kinda feel like my scarpe obsession may be waning a bit – walking from my scarpe Mecca Anbar, I decided that I’m not going to buy anymore shoes until fall. This is a departure from my normal mode of thinking… “I’m only going to buy two pairs of boots this winter” was a fleeting thought last fall, and honestly I can’t keep track of how many pairs of boots I really purchased, but I’m damn sure it was closer to 10 – geez; it actually, physically hurts to type that.

So, as far as spring scarpes go, the count already stands at around 3, and it’s still cold outside. In spite of my wishful thinking that I may have the willpower to not buy more shoes this season (and next) I really want a pair of black patent leather, pointy toed flats and now thanks to Barney’s, I want these too. I know they’ll make my feet sweat, and that they could potentially be really painful on hot days, but damn it I want them anyway.

I have a fascination with slightly tacky footwear. One of my favorite pairs of shoes - of all times was a pair of high, crushed-velvet, bright red sandals, which I wish I had right now. So sparkly, shiny, hair calf, five-inch, mirrored = good. Hence a shoe collection which includes white hair calf boots, silver Guccis on a 5-inch heel, high-heeled gold knee-high boots, Pucci moonboots and the list goes on and on...So, in spite of recent hatred of round toed flats (specifically the ones that look like fake ballet slippers) the sheer borderline hoochie vecchia-ness (but in a good $500 way) of these shoes is kinda irresistible to me.

Lust-worthy Spring Shoes

Love or Lust
By the time I saw them, late last winter I'd already purchase the wedged Marc Jacobs with the fur trim (on sale, thank you very much) the ridiculously wonderful, techicolor Pucci moonboots, the somewhat practical, yet not really, pink shearling Gucci's (I feel guilty just writing this - I got 'em at a price so unbelieveable that I still shake a little when I think about it) and at least one other pair of expensive, label-whore-y boots that I can't seem to remember right now. Even I couldn't really justify buying them - in spite of their perfectly shaped heel, cap toe and subtely metallic hue. For some ultra-bizzare reason, I envisioned myself wearing the silver version with a denim skirt and thick-cableknit tights - which makes no sense at all since I wear all black everyday all day but whatever. These boots have become my Moby Dick...they'd been marked down to $125 by the time I decided not to buy them - they were sold out by the next day....they've haunted me ever since. So I got them - on my sister's b-day, the last pair in my size, at a price that makes me think that Zappos must be insane - finally they're mine!!! Okay, so they're bronze, not silver - but its a perfect bronze that matches the stiching on my J Brands - so its cool.

Practically Practical
I am still in search of skinny jean compatible boots. Apparently I do not understand that 4-inch heels tend not to make the best everyday shoes, this revelation occured to me as I laid on the living room floor writhing in pain due to my ultra-adorable, yet perhaps not so pratical (I got some of thiose ball of the foot pads, so I will reserve judgement until I test them out) Marc Jacobs ankle boots.
So, this morning as I eyed at least 20 girls on the train socklessly wearing ballet flats in the middle of November - I kinda decided that its offically boot weather (thanks to the poor girl wearing a heavy velvet jacket, muffler and open toed wedges) - this is not Cali, its New York, global warning aside - stop the madness.
I want these boots - they're Belle by Sigerson Morrison and they're minmal yet fabtastic and perhaps best of all, I've convinced myself that they're actually practical - but given my track record, I may very well be completely wrong.

I Like Boots
I purchased a pair of boots over the weekend to assuage the sadness.
There’s really only one pair of shoes that I covet right now and affluenza aside can I really justify paying $619 for a pair of boots? Seriously – can I?

At first I though that I didn’t believe in socks, but I’ve for to the conclusion that I actually find them to be somewhat intimate - but in a gross way. Seeing someone’s socks it's like seeing their underwear – like random people – on the train. The point is, it's November and I’m still wearing flats with no socks because it is not quite cold enough to commit to boots (I tried a few weeks ago and it just didn’t feel right) and as far as I can tell, there’s no such thing a shoe that both covers the top of your foot and looks good with skinny jeans. However, I could totally see myself in these Loeffler Randal Elka Boots – they would so solve my problem.

What’s sad is that I already got a pair of Loeffler Randall boots this year (at a really good price – shout out to Gaby’s) – I feel bad for buying them, so they are as yet unworn. But I reeeaaaly want these – I’d wear them everyday, I would and they’re pretty and M wants them too so that means they’ve gotta be special.

Obnoxiously Delicious
After the handbag buying frenzy at work (shout out to M and to the killer BergdorfGoodman.com sale and assorted other - I really shouldn’t be shopping drama, there’s no logical reason to shop - so of course I’m shopping.

Being a cheap-ass label whore of the highest order, I spotted these suckers (Gucci Flat Heel Boot in Rubber) despite the small-as-hell thumbnails on the Neiman Marcus site, essentially because they are super cheap (relatively speaking of course) and Gucci.

I love them and that love is concretized by knowing how fabulous they’ll ultimately look sitting on the absolutely-ridiculous, R has some horribly apt nickname for them, seriously I might have a real problem shelf next to my Pucci Moonboots.

Sneaker Pimpin’ Aint Easy
So, I just got back from Italy last week and for some unnatural and somewhat undefined reason I only purchased one pair of shoes while I was there (for over 2 weeks!) and they’re sneakers. The haute Italian girls were all adorably sporting cowboy boots with their pegged Bermuda shorts – so cute but so not for me. More importantly everyone – I mean EVERYONE was rocking metallic trainers (apparently the Italians still cultivating a bling appreciation) and dang I’m a sucker for a shiny shoe. I felt a tad bit like a stoopid tourist – buying sneakers instead of stilettos in Italy, but I overcame my American consumerist embarrassment and purchased these ultra-blingy Nike Sprint Sisters (okay I know they sell ‘em here – I almost purchased the studded silver version from fredsegalfeet.com before I left)…and I love them.

I am thinking - intensely thinking about the electric blue suede, studded, ever-so wedge heeled Loeffler Randall shoes that are insanely on sale at Intermix. I added them to my basket three separate times, then I so punked out.

There are only two left in my size, it’s highly likely that they'll be gone by tomorrow, but for some reason I just can't justify buying them - its not true love, merely passing consumerist lust...I hope.

So for now, I am refocusing my energies towards these sparkly Marc Jacobs stunners. This may be true love, they totally hit the trifecta; first of all they're sparkly (damn, I love a sparkly shoe - especially if they're sparkly enough to garner copious amounts of admiration from strangers, which essentially feeds into I's theory that women are obsessed with fancy shoes because they're the perfect way to silently assert power over women- but I digress.) Secondly, I can totally convince myself that they're comfortable and lastly they're Marc Jacobs (damn, I love a Marc Jacobs shoe.)

...but help me, if those Loeffler Randall shoes are still in stock tomorrow they're so mine.

paradigm shift
If I were to ever admit to label whoredom, the list would start and end at Marc Jacobs/Gucci in a tie. However, in an unfortunate and somewhat expensive turn of events, Chloe has kinda managed to inch its way onto my purposely-limited, super-exclusive list.

The Paddington boot was my first true obsession last Fall/Winter – presently, I just know that they're eagerly biding time in their sleeper bags, anticipating the first even slightly chilly day of Fall, when they'll spring back into fashion action. Then the adorable dresses that made love dresses again (shout out to the black and cream silk shift that I am still dying to own) and the aforementioned brocade platforms.

I hate that Chloe has forced me to re-examine my long-held, deeply engrained belief system of an unshakeable, binary hierarchy. I hate that the only fashion rule I believe in – "No White Shoes Ever."- has been completely obliterated with not one, but two different shoes in the same season.

I love these shoes. I love them even more now that they're on sale.

I'm still thinking about the pewter, round-toed Marc Jacobs boots with the ever-so-cone shaped heel. Not only were they the perfect, perfect, perfect boot - they had been marked down continually until only my size remained at the paltry sum of $129.99. I waited just a day too long and they were lost to me forever.

I'll admit - I'm still not over the loss, I still think about them, but today I love these chloe shoes instead. So opposite to my beloved Marc Jacobs boots - so impractical - I'm guessing that it would only take about 10 steps before I fall off of that ridiculously lovely platform, so not affordable, so not within my own sense of right, which in general excludes white shoes- (okay, maybe white and gold brocade shouldn't really count) I love them none the less.
